Description

Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe – a super simple, delicious pizza sauce recipe that’s perfect for any type of pizza!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup sweet yellow onion
  • 15oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Bring a medium saucepan to medium-high heat.
  2. Add olive oil; swirl to coat the pan.
  3. Add garlic and let cook until it becomes fragrant, approx. 30 seconds.
  4. Add onion and let cook until it softens, about 1 minute.
  5. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, Italian seasoning, oregano and pepper; whisk to combine.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning, as desired.
  7. Whip up a batch of our homemade pizza dough and make your favorite pizza (this smoked pizza is amazing and so is this grilled pizza)!

Notes

  • Storage: let it fully cool and place in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
  • Freezing: once cooled, you can place it in a freezer safe container (make sure there is space in the top for the sauce to expand a bit) and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Sweetness: if you think it needs a touch of sweetness feel free to add in a bit of coconut sugar (or granulated sugar) – start with just a 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon and go from there.
