Description

Macerated Strawberries – this simple tutorial teaches you how to make those delicious, sugary strawberries, perfect for strawberry shortcake!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 23 tablespoons coconut sugar (*see notes)

Instructions

  1. Place strawberries and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Stir to combine.
  3. Let sit out on the counter, stirring every so often, for approximately 30 minutes or until the strawberries get juicy.

Notes

  • Coconut Sugar: you can use organic cane sugar or just regular granulated sugar here in place of the coconut sugar.
  • Juiciness: most traditional recipes call for granulated sugar here, which you can totally use! This version of the recipe is calling for coconut sugar (which would be paleo) or organic cane sugar (which is unrefined) to keep things a bit healthier.  That being said, this recipe works perfectly with granulated sugar and does get a bit more juicy that way – do what works best for you!!!
