Easy Chia Seed Jam - an absolutely delicious and easy recipe for chia jam. Packed with nutrition and perfect for your next PB & J!
Ingredients
2cupsfresh berriesblackberries, raspberries or strawberries
2tablespoonschia seeds
1-2tablespoonsreal maple syrup
1tablespoonlemon juice
2teaspoonsfresh lemon zestminced
¼teaspoonnutmeg
Instructions
Combine: In a medium sauce pan, add 2 cups fresh berries, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 1-2 tablespoons real maple syrup, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 teaspoons fresh lemon zest, and ¼ teaspoon nutmeg. Mash down berries with a fork or potato masher.
Simmer: Bring to medium heat, turning down as-needed, while allowing the berries to heat up and start to break down. Once berries are broken down and mushy (takes about 5-7 minutes) and everything is combined, let simmer gently for 5 more minutes.
Cool + Store: Remove from heat and let cool. The jam will continue to thicken during this time. Once it is cool, transfer to a mason jar (or other sealable container) and store in the refrigerator.
Notes
Strawberries: if using strawberries I would recommend chopping them first so they break down faster.
Maple Syrup: feel free to use more or less, depending upon how sweet you want your jam. You can substitute honey for this if you want.
Storage: chia seed jam stores in your fridge in a sealed mason jar for up to a week or two.
