Smoked Hot Dogs - learn how to smoke hot dogs (SO EASY). A simple, easy-to-follow recipe that is perfect for your next cookout!
Ingredients
6hot dogs
bun of your choice
Topping Suggestions:
ketchup
mustard
pickle relish
Instructions
Prep: Preheat smoker to 225℉.
Smoke: Place 6 hot dogs on smoker grates and close lid. Let smoke until the internal temperature reaches 155℉, approximately 50-70 minutes.
Optional Reverse Sear: Alternatively, you can let the hot dogs smoke until they reach an internal temp of approximately 150℉, then turn the smoker all the way up and sear the hot dogs on two sides for about 1 minute per side (the searing process could also be done on a gas grill for an even hotter sear). Hot dogs are safe to heat once they reach an internal temperature of 160℉ (note: if you take them off the heat at 155℉ the internal temperature will rise 5 degrees as it rests).
Rest + Serve: Remove and let rest 5-10 minutes. Serve with your bun of your choice and desired toppings.
Notes
Raw vs. Pre-Cooked: if you are using raw hot dogs instead of pre-cooked simply increase the cooking time and watch the internal temperature.
Storage: store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Serving: serve on your bun of choice with all your favorite toppings.
Wood Chips/Pellets: I love using mesquite, apple or hickory.
Traeger: I tested this on a Traeger grill, but it will work on any smoker.
