Thanksgiving Turkey Baste Recipe
Our go-to Turkey Baste Recipe is simple, flavorful and perfect for your Thanksgiving turkey, no matter how you plan to cook it!
Ingredients
- 3-4 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons chicken broth or turkey broth
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced or grated
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
- ½ teaspoon dried sage
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley leaves
- ¼ teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine: In a medium saucepan, add 3-4 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons chicken broth, 1 teaspoon garlic, ½ teaspoon dried thyme leaves, ½ teaspoon dried sage, ½ teaspoon dried parsley leaves, and ¼ teaspoon lemon juice. Mix and bring to a medium-high heat.
- Melt Butter: Let butter melt; stir to combine. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Baste: Use a basting brush or turkey baster to baste turkey with basting mixture every 30-45 minutes, resulting in a moist turkey. (Option to leave a stove top on a "warm" setting to use throughout the cooking process - just keep an eye on it so it doesn't get too hot).
Notes
- Size Turkey: this recipe, as written, works great for an approx. 12-14 lb turkey, but you can easily double it, if needed. You can always stretch this recipe a bit more by just adding in a few more splashes of broth or another tablespoon of butter. It's a super flexible recipe.
- Make Ahead: feel free to make the basting mixture ahead of time then place in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat before using.
- Basting too often: you don't want to baste more than every 30-40 minutes as every time you open the oven you let quite a bit of heat out.
