Make this incredibly juicy and tender Orange Glazed Ham with only 5 real ingredients for your next holiday meal or special occasion!
Ingredients
6poundbone-in ham
¾cuporange marmalade
4tablespoonsbuttermelted (sub plant-based butter)
2tablespoonsbrown sugar
¼cuporange juice
Instructions
Score Ham: Place a 6 pound bone-in ham on a plate. Use a paring knife to score the outer skin crisscross (be careful not to cut all the way down into the meat). Set aside.
Make Glaze: In a small bowl, add ¾ cup orange marmalade, melted butter, and 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Mix to combine and set aside.
Optional Injection: If you have a meat injector, option to fill it with a ¼ cup orange juice and insert it directly into several spots in the ham before cooking.
Slow Cooker: Add ¼ cup orange juice to the slow cooker and then place the ham inside. Brush half of the glaze on the outside of the ham and reserve the rest for later. Cover and cook on the LOW setting for 4 hours.
Final Glaze: Transfer the ham from the slow cooker to a platter and brush on the remaining glaze (note: if your glaze has congealed a bit feel free to pop in the microwave or warm in a small saucepan to soften again). If you prefer a more crisp skin, place the ham on a sheet pan, brush with the glaze, and broil in the oven for a couple minutes.
Serve: Let the ham rest for 5 minutes, carve and serve!
Notes
Size of Ham: this is a very flexible recipe so it will work even if your ham is a little smaller or a little bigger. I generally use a 6-7lb. ham, but I definitely tend to use a 6lb ham if I am using a slow cooker just so it fits properly.
Dairy-Free: simply use a plant-based butter.
Optional Injection: to add even more flavor and juiciness to your ham, use a meat injector to add orange juice directly into the ham in several spots before cooking.
Oven Baked Method: if you prefer to bake your ham, simply place the 1 cup orange juice + 2 cups vegetable broth in a roasting pan, place the ham inside on a roasting rack, brush with half the glaze and cover loosely with foil, and bake at 325 degrees F for 18-24 minutes per pound or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees F. Approx. 10 minutes before the ham is done brush on the remaining glaze - feel free to pop under the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes.
