Our easy and simple Onion Jam recipe is made with simple, real ingredients like coconut sugar and balsamic vinegar!
Ingredients
¼cupextra virgin olive oil
2sweet yellow onionssliced and quartered
½cupcoconut sugar
1tablespoonbalsamic vinegar
½teaspoonlemon zest
pinchkosher salt
Instructions
Caramelize Onions: Add ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil to large cast iron skillet; bring to medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and let cook until golden-brown; about 15-20 minutes.
Combine: Add ½ cup coconut sugar and let melt before stirring. Move onions around while they turn a dark brown color - about another 5-6 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, ½ teaspoon lemon zest and pinch kosher salt; stir until nice and thick.
Serve: Taste and add any additional sugar, as-desired. Enjoy!
Notes
Coconut sugar: you can use regular, granulated sugar or cane sugar, if you prefer.
Storage: Let this savory jam fully cool to room temperature and then you can put it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
