½teaspoongarlic powder
½teaspoononion powder
½teaspoonsmoked paprika
¼teaspoonkosher salt
⅛teaspoonground black pepper
1-2teaspoonsmolassesoptional
Instructions
Combine: In a small saucepan, add 2 cups ketchup*, ¼ cup coconut sugar, ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons tomato paste, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon liquid smoke, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper, and 1-2 teaspoons molasses (if using). Stir to combine.
Simmer: Place on stove and bring to a simmer. Let simmer a bit to help thicken and let flavors meld together, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
*Ketchup: I used Primal Kitchen's ketchup that is made with super clean ingredients and no added sugar. If you use a different ketchup that is sweeter you might not need the molasses so be sure and taste before adding.
Smoky: if you want it even smokier, I would recommend adding additional liquid smoke 1/4 teaspoon at a time until you have reached your desired level.
Paleo: if you want this to be paleo simply use the Primal Kitchen ketchup and skip the molasses.
Storage: store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
