It is the perfect hot drink for your holiday parties or an after-dinner treat next to the fire. This easy hot buttered rum can also be enjoyed as a mocktail, if you omit the rum. A warm cocktail that is also great for nursing a sore throat during those cold winter months. Cheers to warming up on the couch with mug of this perfect holiday cocktail!

What You Will Need
- unsalted butter – a pat of butter is an essential ingredient for this hot cocktail that brings a nice, buttery flavor and rich creaminess.
- dark brown sugar – a little bit for some added sweetness!
- cinnamon, ground cloves, & nutmeg – the best warm flavors that bring holiday spice to this cozy cocktail.
- vanilla extract – a splash for some added flavor.
- rum – omit to make a non-alcoholic version or use your favorite dark rum or spiced rum (like Captain Morgan).
- water – bring it to a boil to melt the butter and mix everything together.
- garnish: cinnamon stick, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, sprinkling of cinnamon, etc.
How To Make Hot Buttered Rum
The first steps to making this easy recipe are to gather all of the ingredients.
Place the butter, rum, vanilla, and warm spices, in your favorite mug. Once all the hot buttered rum ingredients are in the mug, pour the hot water on top of them to make this hot drink on a cold evening.
Mix everything together and let the butter melt.
Add a big dollop of whipped cream and garnish any way you want!

Description

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar, more to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions
- In a large mug, add 1 tablespoon butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and rum.
- Pour boiling water on top and stir thoroughly. Taste and add additional butter or brown sugar, as desired.
- Add cinnamon stick and cover with whipped cream
- Sprinkle with nutmeg and/or cinnamon, if desired and garnish with a star anise.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
