Key Ingredients & Substitutions
- Rose’s Lime Juice – This is a bar staple at our house as it provides the bright flavors of lime with a touch of sweetness. If you don’t have this, feel free to use fresh lime juice, but just know that your drink will be more tart than sweet.
- Gin – Quality liquor really does impact the flavor of your cocktail. We went with Bombay Saphire, but Tanqueray No. Ten or Hendrick’s Gin are both great options.
- Tonic Water – We love using Fever-Tree because it uses real quinine, which provides a clean, sharp taste and has no artificial sweeteners. If you can’t find this brand, check out Q Mixers or Fentimans tonic water.
How To Make A Gin & Tonic

Recipe FAQs and Tips
- What drinks use Rose’s lime juice? You can add Rose’s lime juice to any drink that needs a sweet citrus flavor, but the most common drink that it’s usually added to is the Gimlet.
- Is Rose’s lime juice the same as lime juice? They’re similar, but not the same. Rose’s lime juice has added sweetener and a preservative that allows it to be shelf stable. Fresh lime juice lasts in the fridge for 24-48 hours before going bad while Rose’s can be stored in the fridge for a couple of months at a time.
- What is the perfect mix for gin and tonic? Like most classic drinks, the ingredients for a G&T are pretty simple; gin, tonic, and a little sweetener and citrus.
- Fun Fact – The G&T was created originally as as health drink! In the early 19th century, quinine was the only known preventative treatment for malaria. So British colonists mixed it up with gin and lime juice to make it a bit more palatable.
