Okay you guys, let’s talk about draaankin. Or, lack thereof. It is probably one of people’s least favorite things to give up on Whole30 and I totally get it. Our society is all about the social drink and, frankly, it feels weird when someone says, “I’m not drinking.” Wait -what. You aren’t drinking? Why? Are you pregnant?
No, I just don’t feel like drinking.
And that’s okay.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cocktail or beer with my pizza (on the rare occasion I eat pizza). I just don’t drink a lot anymore because it simply just doesn’t make me feel good. I get headaches, I feel sluggish, bloated…. I have had to re-learn my limits (which is basically 1-2 drinks these days). But mainly, I just don’t drink much.
So how do I deal with the social expectation to drink? Honestly, I have noticed that as long as you have something that looks like a drink in your hand, people start to relax. Also, honesty. If I explain to someone that I just am not a big drinker and it doesn’t make me feel good, anyone who is my friend should be cool with that. Finally, I bring what I want to drink. Generally, my alcohol replacement is kombucha. We went to a friend’s house for dinner 2 weeks ago and I brought a bottle of kombucha – this past weekend I visited my best friend and I also brought some kombucha. I drink it out of a wine glass and, honestly, I don’t miss the alcohol. (although I sure could have used a glass of wine after driving the 3 hours home in a blizzard ….. ). You have to find out what works for you!
When I do actually want to have a drink and I am doing a Whole30 or a reset, I make one of these all. the. time. (or one of these) They are so easy and absolutely delicious!
Quick note on the kombucha, I use the GTS Kombucha – it is one of my favorites, partly because they have so many freakin flavors and you can find them pretty much everywhere these days! (not sponsored, I just really like this product!)
I know this I is a super simple recipe, but sometime those are the best!

- 1 cup GTS Guava Kombucha
- 1/2 cup LaCroix Lime mineral water
- 1 Teaspoon fresh lime juice (more to taste)
- Fill glass with ice.
- Pour in kombucha.
- Pour mineral water on top.
- Add fresh lime juice.
- Garnish with lime.
- Taste and add additional lime juice as needed.
