What You Will Need

- cold water – this is the only liquid you will need to turn rolled oats into delicious oat milk!
- kosher salt – just a pinch for flavor!

To start making this easy recipe, measure out the rolled oats.
What Are The Best Rolled Oats To Use For Homemade Oat Milk
You can use any rolled oats – it is completely a personal preference! If you need a recommendation, we love these oats!
Now place the oats and cold water in a blender or food processor.
Water To Oat Ratio
We really like the ratio of 1 cup oats to 4 cups of cold water, but this can be a personal preference. Give it a try and you can always adjust the ratio to make the oat milk that works for you!
Once the oats and water are completely blended together, pour the mixture through a cheesecloth on top of a fine-mesh strainer into a mason jar.
Use a spoon to help move or remove any oat reside to make the process go faster.
Finally, squeeze the cheesecloth to get the last of the oat milk in the mason jar.
How To Use Homemade Oat Milk
The options are endless! You can pretty much use it the exact same way you would use regular milk or another plant-based milk. We love to add a splash when enjoying a cup of cold brew, in a latté, over some cereal or granola for breakfast, or another other recipe that calls for milk!
Recipe FAQ
- add-ins: you could toss a date or a little vanilla extract in the blender for a little added sweetness.
- storage: it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. As it sits you might notice a little separation but that is completely normal. Just give it a shake before using.

Love your recipes and your thorough instructions! I have a question relating the cheese cloth. How do you wash it so that it doesn’t have any scent to it? Do you use unscented laundry detergent? I want to give this a try! Thanks so much.

Hi Andrea – thank you! Glad you are enjoying the recipes! So a lot of times just rinsing the cheesecloth really well in hot water does the trick. Sometimes I run it through the wash, but then I generally use something like Branch Basics. Hope that helps!
