Why You Will Love This Recipe
- Simple – if you are already smoking something for dinner, this is super easy to toss right along side it!
- Kid-friendly – we like to keep some of the asparagus pretty basic for the kids but then we toss in some red pepper flakes to spice it up!
- Summer classic – this is a staple of summer at our house – especially when we are able to get some fresh out of the garden or at the local farmer’s market!
What You Will Need
- Fresh asparagus: one of my all-time favorite vegetables that goes with anything!
- Olive oil: helps coat the asparagus so that salt, pepper, and any other seasonings stick while also keeping it nice and crisp.
- Salt & pepper: no vegetable is complete without a little salt & pepper seasoning.
- Garlic (optional): feel free to toss in some garlic or another seasoning for some added flavor!
How Long Do You Smoke Asparagus
You can smoke asparagus at 225 degrees F. for about 40-60 minutes, tossing halfway through. If you are short on time you can turn the smoker up to 350 degrees F. and then they should only take about 20-30 minutes.
What To Serve With Smoked Asparagus
Smoked asparagus is great to go with just about anything! We love serving it as a side dish with Smoked Pork Tenderloin, Smoked Turkey, or Smoked Pork Shoulder.

Recipe FAQs and Tips
- Cook time: cooking times can vary a lot with smoking recipes simply because there are so many variables at play which can impact time: humidity, temperature, hot spots on your grill, wind, etc. After testing on a Traeger we found that about 50 minutes was the perfect amount for a soft, yet firm asparagus – feel free to cook longer or less depending upon your smoker and your desired softness.
- Quicker cook time: if you need to speed things up I would recommend smoking for 20-30 minutes and then up your temp to 350 degrees F. until the asparagus has reached your desired softness.
- Spicy: feel free to sprinkle some red pepper flakes on top to spice it up!
- Lemon: you can also throw some lemon wedges in there if you want – the flavor pairs wonderfully with the garlic!
- Leftovers: you can store leftover cooked asparagus in the fridge for 3-5 days. You can warm it up in the microwave but I highly recommend re-heating in the oven at 400 degrees F.
- Repurpose leftovers: leftover cooked vegetables are great way to add vegetables to breakfast – perfect addition to any egg dish. Or you could toss them in a salad for lunch!
