How To Smoke Potatoes
The first steps to making this easy recipe are to cut the potatoes up into cubes. Place them in a large bowl to toss in olive oil, salt, pepper, and any other seasonings.

Make an aluminum foil boat and spray with a non-stick cooking spray. Place the seasoned potatoes in the aluminum foil boat.

Add a dollop of butter, ghee, or plant-based butter on top.

Place the potatoes on the smoker for about 1.5-2 hours.

Carefully remove from the hot smoker and enjoy!

We love to serve either whole smoked potatoes or diced smoked potatoes with just about anything! Some of our favorites are Smoked Baby Back Ribs, Smoked Pork Tenderloin, Smoked Pork Shoulder, or smoked chicken breasts.

Leftover smoked potatoes can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 year.

Recipe FAQs and Tips
- Cook Time: cooking times can vary a lot with smoking recipes, simply because there are so many variables at play which can impact time: humidity, temperature, hot spots on your grill, wind, etc. After testing on a Traeger pellet grill we found that after 3+ hours at 225 degrees F the potatoes were smokey, but not soft, so we finished cooking them at a higher temp. This resulted in a smokey, soft potato – feel free to cook longer or less depending upon your smoker and your desired softness.
- Add-Ins: feel free to add in some onions or garlic – both would be good in here!
- Russet Potatoes: feel free to use russet potatoes if you want! They may cook a little faster, so just test the potatoes often for doneness!
- Whole leftover potatoes: if you have enough whole leftover potatoes you could cut them up and repurpose them into a potato salad – we love this Deviled Egg Potato Salad!
