This is definitely a nostalgic one for me… for years when I was growing up I would watch my mom make cold brew iced tea every summer! It always seemed like magic to me. I didn’t care for the taste of the tea at the time, but over the years I have definitely developed a taste for this classic summer beverage. And if you also love cold brew tea, you have to try our simple tutorials on how to make cold brew coffee or how to make iced coffee – both summer favorites!
What You Will Need
- tea bags – you really can’t go wrong! Use your favorite – mine is the Tazo Passion hibiscus tea!
- water – the simple base for this smooth tea.
- large glass container or french press – any large glass containers (we love these) or a french press will work perfectly.
- options for infused cold brew tea – strawberries, orange slices, lemon slices, or other aromatics.
What Is The Best Tea To Use For Cold Brew Tea
This is completely up to you! Any tea will work. Typically a loose-leaf tea will provide more flavor than tea bags, but if you want to keep it simple tea bags will work just fine. We love the varieties of Tazo tea, but feel free to use your favorite.
Is There Caffeine In Cold Brew Iced Tea
Yes, there is caffeine in cold brew tea but it is about half the amount in cold brew tea versus the same tea steeped in hot water. You could also use an herbal tea if you do not care for caffeine.
Storage Tips
You can simply store your cold brewed tea in a large glass container in the refrigerator for about 3-5 days. Make sure you do use glass and not plastic because plastic containers can stain or leave an odor.
How to Cold Brew Tea
You can simply begin by picking out your favorite tea.
Then place the tea bags (with the strings hanging out) in a large glass container filled with water. You can also use loose-leaf tea, but then you will need to sieve out the tea leaves before drinking.
Place this container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
Cold Brew Tea in a French Press
You can also easily make cold brew tea in a french press. Simply begin by placing tea leaves and water in the french press. Place it in the fridge overnight.
The next day, press the plunger all the way down to strain out the tea leaves.
Chill in the fridge or pour over ice to enjoy!
Infused Cold Brew Iced Tea
If you like adding a little flavor or sweetness to your tea, you can simply place some strawberries, oranges, lemons, or other aromatics to the tea during the steeping process. This will add some really great flavor to your tea.
