The BEST Iced Chai Tea Latte
There is nothing better than snuggling up with a warm chai tea latte in the winter so when summer came it was definitely time to make an iced version of this favorite! Once you see how simple it is you will be saving money by making them at home all summer long. This copycat Starbucks Iced Chai Tea Latte is so simple to make (See also: Iced Matcha Latte).
What You Will Need
- Water – heat on the stove top until just warm enough to steep the tea bag.
- Chai tea bag – choose your favorite chai tea! Love that this has less caffeine than coffee, but still gives you a little boost and I LOVE the flavor/taste.
- Ice – a full glass of ice is needed to chill the tea if you will be drinking it right away.
- Vanilla extract – added for a dash of flavor.
- Maple syrup – a touch of sweetness! Feel free to use your sweetener of choice though (honey works great here)!
- Unsweetened almond milk or 1 batch of cold foam – this is where the chai tea becomes a latte! We love it with cold foam but if you are in a hurry you can just use some unsweetened almond milk. Feel free to sub your own favorite dairy-free milk (oat milk and coconut milk work great) – regular dairy milks work fine as well if that is what you prefer.
What is Chai
Chai is full of a rich history in India – over time in America it has become a well-known flavor of tea that is recognized by its notes of ginger, star anise, nutmeg, etc. While you can make your own chai tea spice blend, this particular recipe goes for convenience relying on store-bought tea bags to bring that flavor to life.
What Is An Iced Chai Tea Latte
An iced chai latte recipe is simply black tea that is infused with a variety of spices and then mixed with milk (almond milk in this case) and ice giving you the perfect combination of sweet and a little spicy.
Does An Iced Chai Tea Latte Have Coffee In It
No, chai lattes do not have coffee in them – they generally use a chai tea concentrate instead.
Homemade Chai Concentrate
In this recipe we are using two chai tea bags to create a homemade chai concentrate, using the two bags of tea to really strengthen that flavor. If you don’t want a super strong chai flavor, feel free to use only one tea bag.

How To Make An Iced Chai Tea Latte
Mix water, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Add your tea bags to steep for 5-10 minutes. Add two tea bags essentially helps create a chai tea concentrate (since normally you would use only one). If you don’t want the chai flavor to be as strong, feel free to use just one. Alternatively, you could sub in something like a Tazo chai concentrate!
Add cold foam ingredients to a milk frother.
Pour steeped tea over ice.
Pour cold foam or unsweetened almond milk on top of the tea.
Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1–2 chai tea bags
- ice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almondmilk or 1 batch cold foam (pictured)
Instructions
- Add water to a small sauce pan.
- Bring water to medium heat (just short of a boil) and add maple syrup and vanilla extract. Stir to combine and let maple syrup dissolve. Don’t let water get super hot, just hot enough to be able to steep the tea bags.
- Add tea bag and remove saucepan from heat.
- Let steep 5-10 minutes.
- At this point you can pour the tea into a glass and place it in the refrigerator to use the next day or later that day. Alternatively, you can just let the tea cool a little and then pour over ice to completely cool – do whatever you prefer.
- Add ice to a glass and pour chai mixture over top.
- Pour in unsweetened almondmilk and stir to combine.
- Alternatively, you can make a batch of cold foam or sweet cream cold foam to pour over top (cold foam pictured in post).
- Enjoy!
Notes
- Sweetener: feel free to use a different sweetener if you prefer.
- Milk: feel free to use a different milk if you prefer.

I’m going to try this but quick question, how do you double or triple this. I would love to have this stored in the fridge for a quick treat!

Hi Megan – If I wanted to make this ahead of time I would make a bigger batch of the chai tea mixture and just keep that cold in the fridge. Then when you are ready to make one for the day just pour out the cold chi mixture over ice and add whatever milk, dairy-free milk or cold foam you want! Hope that helps!
