After testing and perfecting our healthy buffalo chicken dip (has multiple 5-star reviews), we knew it was time to hop on the high protein, blended cottage cheese trend and take this dip to the next level! For years, buffalo sauce has been one of my favorite ways to quickly infuse any dish with a punch of flavor and just the right amount of heat. The creamy cottage cheese is the perfect match for Frank’s red hot (or our homemade buffalo sauce) and the chicken adds even more protein and texture. Try out our buffalo chicken sliders if you want these flavors on-the-go.

Key Ingredients & Substitutions
Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, and estimated nutritional information.
- chicken – There are so many options here! Using rotisserie chicken would be the quickest option. Pull off 4 cups of meat, shredding it as you go, and you’re done! Or learn how to shred chicken breasts using the instant pot, slow cooker, or stovetop.
- cottage cheese – We used 4% milk fat cottage cheese for the creamiest blended cheese, but 2% or skim could work too.
- Frank’s Red Hot – This is my favorite store-bought buffalo sauce, but Texas Pete and Louisiana Hot Sauce have similar flavors.
How To Make High Protein Buffalo Chicken Dip

Begin by adding all three ingredients to a large mixing bowl.

Give it all a good stir until the ingredients are combined.
How To Blend Cottage Cheese
After experimenting with many methods, we’ve found it easiest to blend the cottage cheese right in it’s container using an immersion blender. It cuts down on dishes and is done in a matter of minutes. A standard countertop blender works too.

Recipe FAQs and Tips
- Is buffalo chicken dip gluten-free? Yes! All the ingredients used are naturally gluten-free. Serve with veggies or gluten-free chips and/or crackers to keep it gluten-free.
- What’s the easiest way to shred chicken breast? Place fully cooked chicken on a cutting board and shred it with two forks or throw the chicken in a bowl and use a hand mixer or your trusty stand mixer on low to quickly shred.
- Is this dip best served hot or cold? Either option works with Franks red hot buffalo chicken dip. Typically, I make this one in advance and store it in the fridge until it’s ready to be served.
- Can I make buffalo chicken dip in a slow cooker instead? I would start by following my recipe for crock pot buffalo chicken. Once it’s fully cooked, shredded, removed from the slow cooker and cooled a bit, measure out 4 cups of the chicken and place it in a separate bowl. Then slowly add in the blended cream cheese. Option to wipe out the slow cooker and return the dip to sit on the warm setting for serving a hot dip.
