As you all know, we absolutely love cooking any dinner on our Blackstone flat top griddle. It is quick, easy, and required minimal clean-up! So when we were developing our delicious Bánh Mì Rice Bowl our creative juices started flowing and thought all these flavors would be so good in a handheld smash burger taco. And… we were absolutely right! It is another smash burger taco, but with all the best Asian-inspired flavor – yum!

How To Make Banh Mi Smash Burger Tacos

What Goes With Smash Burger Tacos?
Typically anything that you serve with a regular smash burger, you can serve with a smash burger taco. Since this particular smash burger taco has different flavors going on, we suggest enjoying them with a sesame ginger slaw, steamed broccoli, or air fryer asparagus.

Quick Pickled Vegetables:
- 1 medium carrot, peeled & thinly sliced into 3-inch strips
- 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1–2 garlic cloves, peeled & smashed
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Pork Mixture:
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1/4 cup green onions, minced
- 1 heaping tablespoon fresh cilantro, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (sub tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon lemongrass paste
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1–2 teaspoons garlic chili sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Other Ingredients & Tools:
- 6 street taco tortillas
- romaine lettuce, shredded
- fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
- burger press
- parchment paper squares
Instructions
- Spicy Mayo: Put the 1/2 cup mayo and 1 tablespoon garlic chili sauce in a small bowl; mix to combine. Set aside.
- Quick Pickled Vegetables: Place thinly sliced vegetables into a mason jar. In a small saucepan, add 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup water, 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar, 2 tablespoons white vinegar, 1-2 smashed garlic cloves, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Bring to a simmer and then pour that pickling liquid into the same jar as vegetables, while still hot. Let sit 30 minutes (careful it will be hot).
- Make Pork Mixture: Put all the Pork Mixture ingredients in a large bowl; mix to combine. Divide this mixture into 6 equal-sized balls and set aside on a plate.
- Cook Patties: Preheat flat top griddle to medium-high heat. Once hot, place pork balls on top. Place a parchment paper square on a ball & slowly press down to flatten with the burger press. Remove the parchment and let cook for about 40 seconds. Repeat this process with all the patties, it may need to be done in batches. Flip each patty and place a tortilla on the griddle next to each one. Close the lid and let burgers cook for about 2 minutes. Open lid, flip tortillas, and use a large spatula to lift a patty on to the toasted tortilla and then off the griddle to a plate. Repeat process until all have been removed.
- Serve: Enjoy the smash burger tacos with some lettuce, cilantro, quick pickled vegetables, and a drizzle of the spicy mayo!
Notes
- Spicy Mayo + Veggies: the spicy mayo and quick pickled vegetables are optional toppings but are SO GOOD on these pork smash burgers!
- Prep Ahead of Time: easily make the mayo, pickled veggies, and pork mixture ahead of time for a super easy cooking process and easy weeknight dinner.
- Gluten-Free: simply use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce and your favorite gluten-free tortillas.
