Rather than searching “chef salad near me,” make your very own using a just a few basic ingredients from the comfort of your own kitchen. This classic salad recipe has lots of veggies, meats, and cheeses, to keep you feeling full and satisfied throughout the day. It’s an easy salad to make whether you’re feeding a crowd or meal prepping for the rest of the week.
Chef Salad Ingredients
- Romaine lettuce – Some crisp lettuce is the base for all the other ingredients to shine! Feel free to swap out with iceberg lettuce or your favorite leafy greens.
- hard boiled eggs – Adds some nice mild flavor and keeps you full all day long.
- cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots – Gotta love the classic fresh veggies.
- green olives – Equal parts salty and tangy.
- Colby jack and Swiss cheeses – You can never have enough cheese!
- deli turkey and ham – The type of cold meat that you add this this salad is totally up to you, but these are our favorites.
- sprouts – They add a fun texture and slightly nutty flavor.
- sesame seeds – Just a bit to add some crunch.
- green onions – Helps add a slight kick throughout.
- ranch and french dressings – Both of these are homemade and so delicious, but feel free to use a dressing that speaks to you.
How To Make A Chefs Salad
Start by chopping most of your ingredients up into nice bite-sized pieces and measure them out per the quantities listed in the recipe card. These are our ingredient recommendations, but let your eyes be your guide as you peruse the produce section at your local grocery store.
Get working on your homemade herby ranch dressing and/or french dressing, or feel free to use a store bought variety.
Now create a bed of lettuce in two bowls and top with hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, green olives, colby jack cheese, swiss cheese, deli meat, sprouts, sesame seeds and green onions.

- 4 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
- 1–2 hard boiled eggs, quartered or diced
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

- 1/2 cup carrots, sliced and quartered

- 1/2 cup colby jack cheese, small cubes
- 1/2 cup swiss cheese, small cubes
- 1/2 cup deli turkey, cubed

- 1/4 cup sprouts
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
- dressing: ranch and french dressing
Instructions
- Divide lettuce between 2 bowls.
- Top with egg, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, green olives, colby jack cheese, swiss cheese, turkey, ham, sprouts, sesame seeds and green onions.
- Top with ranch and french dressing (or the dressing of your choice).
- Enjoy!

- Dressing: I love using ranch and french dressing on my chef salad and we have a delicious Herby Ranch Dressing on the site as well as a homemade French Dressing – but feel free to use store bought if you want!
