Why You’ll Always Save Your Pickle Juice Just For This Pickled Cocktail

- 👉 Exciting: Sure, we’ve all had the standard margarita. But a pickle margarita? Now, that’s different and worth getting excited about. Serve this when you need to get out of your cocktail rut.
- 👉 Savory Cocktail: Who else gets turned off by super sweet cocktails? Me too. So I developed this pickled margarita that really leans into the best savory flavors.
- 👉 It Pairs Perfectly with some of our favorite outdoor dinners like our smoked burgers, Blackstone chicken wings, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, and the classic grilled beer brats.
Dill Pickle Margarita Ingredients + Substitutions
- Tequila: for a margarita, we prefer a white tequila like Jose Cuervo or Patrón. Feel free to use your favorite tequila.
- Pickle Juice: We used dill pickle juice as it provides the most classic pickle flavor. Garlic dill pickles will punch up the savory flavors. Spicy pickles will add some heat. Bread and Butter pickles will be much sweeter than other varieties. Refrigerator pickles will have a fresh flavor without as much dill. Choose the flavors that you like best!
- Simple Syrup: We’re adding just a bit of our 2-ingredient homemade simple syrup to balance out the savory flavors. Make your own in 10 minutes or grab some from the store.

Ingredients
- lime wedge
- kosher salt
- ice cubes
- 1 ½ ounces tequila
- 1 ½ ounces orange liqueur
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- 2 – 2 ½ ounces pickle juice
- garnish: pickle spear + fresh dill
Instructions
- Salt Rim + Ice: Rub a lime wedge along the edge of a glass. Place some kosher salt on a small plate. Flip the glass upside down and rub the rim in the salt, so it sticks to the rim of the glass. Flip the glass back over and add ice cubes.
- Shaker: Add 1 ½ ounces tequila, 1 ½ ounces orange liqueur, 1 ounce lime juice, 1 ounce simple syrup, and 2 – 2 ½ ounces pickle juice to a cocktail shaker. Shake to combine and pour over ice. Taste and if you want a little more pickle flavor add another .5oz of pickle juice.
- Serve: Pour in the rimmed glass with ice and garnish with a pickle spear and some fresh dill.
Notes
- Pickle flavor: we tested this with 1.5oz, 2oz, and 2.5oz of pickle juice. We agreed 1.5oz just wasn’t enough of a pickle taste. We LOVED 2oz and some of us loved the 2.5oz of pickle juice. For the record we also tested 3oz of pickle juice and it was just … too much pickle 🙂
- Pickle Brand: For this recipe I would highly suggest using a brand such as Claussen pickles or our homemade pickles. Something light, bright, and fresh. I wouldn’t use the brands that are artificially colored with that yellow/green color! I just don’t think it would taste the same.
- Simple Syrup: option to learn how to make simple syrup at home or pick-up a store-bought version at your local grocery store.
- Pitcher Instructions: For a 8 cocktails, following the following amounts: 1.5 C tequila, 1.5 C orange liqueur, 1 C lime juice, 1 C simple Syrup, 2 C pickle Juice. Combine everything in a pitcher and over ice into individual servings garnished with lime and dill.

Fun twist on a regular margarita, especially if you like dill pickles. The pickle juice adds just enough tang without overpowering the drink. Easy summer cocktail for barbecues or sitting out on the deck.
