How To Smoke Cornbread
While your smoker preheats to 350 degrees F, gather and measure all of your ingredients.
Make some buttermilk by whisking together your milk and lemon juice. You can always use store bought buttermilk if that’s more convenient.
Add your dry ingredients of flour, cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and coconut sugar to a large mixing bowl and whisk until everything is thoroughly combined.
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, honey, eggs and the “buttermilk” mixture.
Now combine the wet and dry mixtures, and mix to combine. Then prepare your cast iron skillet by coating the bottom with two tablespoons of melted butter. Then place the cornmeal batter in the skillet.
How Long To Smoke Cornbread
Place the skillet in your smoker on the bottom wire rack, close the lid, and let it cook for 25-30 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the thickest part of your cornbread and when it comes out clean, it’s done!
Remove your cornbread from the smoker and let it cool slightly before serving. This delicious cornbread is best enjoyed with a few pats of butter and a drizzling of honey.
What To Serve With Smoked Cornbread
Honestly, any dish that you’d usually serve with a side of cornbread would work with smoked cornbread as well. This easy side dish would taste amazing with our classic slow cooker chili, country style ribs, or our bbq crock pot chicken.
