What You Will Need
- butter – we used unsalted butter and you can use a plant-based butter to make them dairy-free but it might change the texture a bit.
- granulated sugar & brown sugar – a combination of sugars to bring the best sweetness.
- vanilla extract – a little bit is always a must to add some flavor to your baking!
- fresh eggs – helps to bind all the baking ingredients together.
- flour – the foundation ingredient for all the best cookie recipes.
- baking soda & salt – these combine to help this easy recipe rise and amplify that flavor!
- chocolate chips – definitely the star of the show and feel free to use chocolate chunks, mini chocolate chips, or dairy-free chocolate chips, whatever you have on hand.
How To Make A Cookie Skillet
The first steps to making this warm skillet cookie are to gather the 9 simple ingredients.
Now grab a large bowl and beat together the soft butter and sugars. Then add the eggs and vanilla extract and beat slightly to combine, but do not over mix.
Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate medium bowl and then add these dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Stir to combine. Now fold in those delicious semi sweet chocolate chips.
Rub the bottom and sides of a cast iron pan or oven-safe skillet with butter and then press the cookie dough into the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 22-27 minutes of baking time.
Carefully remove the cast-iron skillet from the oven and let it cool slightly at room temperature. Serve any way you want!
Best Ways To Serve A Cookie Skillet
This warm and delicious dessert can be enjoyed all on its own, but who doesn’t love the combination of warm cookie with scoops of ice cream. Therefore, we love to serve it up with some scoops of vanilla ice cream. Feel free to grab your ice cream of choice or add a drizzle of caramel sauce or chocolate syrup! Or a sprinkle of flaky sea salt!
Recipe FAQ
Yes! We like to rub a little butter on the pan before adding the dough, to help with sticking, but, yes, no need to put anything else in the pan.
Honestly, we don’t have leftovers often. It is that good! But, you can either cover the skillet with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and put the whole thing in the fridge for up to 4 days or remove slices of the cookie and place in an airtight container in the fridge.
Personally, we love to heat the oven back up to 350 degrees F and just return the skillet to the oven for about 5 minutes or until warmed through. If you remove slices from the skillet, you can also warm those cookie slices in the microwave.
