The Best Grilled Ham Steak
For years, we have made a whole Grilled Ham, but sometimes you are feeding a smaller crowd or want to bring new life to some leftover ham. Plus, typically, we only make an entire ham for a Easter, Christmas, or other special occasion but we have found ourselves wanting a smaller amount for just a regular dinner. This super easy meal will be ready to eat in about 15 minutes and makes just enough for one quick meal.

If you haven’t, you definitely need to try our Instant Pot Ham!
What You Will Need
- maple syrup & brown sugar – combine both for the perfect balance of sweetness!
- butter – love that creamy melted butter pulling everything together in the glaze.
- bourbon – a little bit added for the depth of flavor, but feel free to omit.
- dijon mustard – a great choice to compliment any cut of ham.
- ground cinnamon & ground allspice – love the slight warmth that these spices have.
- lemon zest – adding some acidity will really help to amplify all the flavors!
- fresh ham steaks – this cut of ham is easily found in your local grocery store or use some leftover ham slices.
- olive oil – brush oil on the outside of the ham steak to help prevent sticking and to get gorgeous grill marks.
How To Make Grilled Ham Steak
The first steps to making this easy recipe are to gather all of the simple ingredients. Put everything for the ham glaze in a small bowl and whisk together.

Brush both sides of the ham steak with olive oil and then place directly on the preheated gas grill to sear on direct heat for about 2-3 minutes over a medium heat. Flip it over, let it continue cooking for about 1 minute, brush on the glaze, and close the lid for 1 more minute of cook time. Carefully remove from the grill.

What To Serve With Grilled Ham Steak
Our grilled ham steak with glaze would make a delicious dinner with some grilled asparagus (since you already have it fired up) and creamy mashed potatoes! And if you are looking for another side dish, try our garlic green beans, grilled potato wedges, or a grilled vegetable salad. There are so many great options!

Recipe FAQs
- How long do you grill a ham steak? This depends on how thick it is. Our ham steak was fairly thin and was warmed through in 4-5 minutes. A thicker cut of meat will need longer. Most ham steaks are precooked, so you only need to make sure it is fully warmed through the thickest part.
- What if I don’t have a grill? You can still cook a ham steak, just grab a large skillet that can hold the entire ham steak and cook it right on your stove top.
