Ham and Cheese Sliders – a simple, classic ham and cheese sliders recipe that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or Game Day appetizer!
The Best Ham And Cheese Slider Recipe
This perfect combination of ham, provolone cheese, dijon mustard, and perfectly soft Hawaiian rolls come together for the most amazingly delicious quick weeknight dinner or a delicious Game Day appetizer to share with friends! Our absolute favorite time to make these for dinner is when we have leftover Double Smoked Ham or Simple Baked Ham, usually after a holiday.
Using leftover ham really takes these sliders to the next level or use that leftover ham to make Ham Bean Soup! And if you are in search of another great slider – we highly recommend our Caramelized Onion Burger Sliders. Another great option for delicious Game Day Appetizers!
What You Will Need
- small dinner rolls – feel free to use any type of dinner roll – whole wheat or our favorite, Hawaiian rolls!!
- butter – a little for the inside of the rolls and then some melted butter on top!
- slices of ham – you can purchase your favorite deli ham or use leftover ham, if you have it.
- sliced provolone cheese – option to use regular or dairy free.
- dijon mustard – this flavor is simply perfect on these ham sliders!
- sea salt – just a sprinkle on top.
How Many Sliders Are Needed Per Person
This will depend on what else you are serving. If this is one item in a variety of appetizers you may want to plan on about 2-3 sliders per person. If there will be A LOT of other snacks you might be able to plan less. If you are making these for dinner we usually make one batch of the recipe below, serve them with some veggies/fruit, and then we usually have a couple sliders leftover.
Can I Make Ham and Cheese Sliders Ahead Of Time
Absolutely! You can make them the night before by assembling the sandwiches, cover them tightly, and then place in the fridge until you are ready to bake them. We typically wait to brush the melted butter on top until right before baking them.
These sandwiches are also a great option for the freezer. You can assemble, cover, and place in the freezer for up to 6 months before making them! Again, wait for the melted butter until right before baking.
Reheating Ham and Cheese Sliders
You can simply warm them in the microwave but our favorite way to reheat them is by brushing a little more melted butter on top and then place them in the oven at 375 degrees for about 5-10 minutes – don’t forget to keep that foil over them so they don’t dry out though. It really brings them back to life!
How To Make Ham and Cheese Sliders
First, you will want to slice the dinner rolls in half horizontally (as shown) and then spread some butter on them.
Add your slices of ham.
Then the cheese.
Spread as much dijon mustard as you like, place the tops of the rolls on, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle on some sea salt.
Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 5-7 minutes.
Cut and enjoy!!

Description
Ham and Cheese Sliders – a simple, classic ham and cheese sliders recipe that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or Game Day appetizer!
Ingredients
- 12 small dinner rolls
- 4–6 tablespoons butter, divided
- 4–8 large slices ham
- 4–6 large slices provolone cheese (dairy-free or regular)
- dijon mustard
- sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Without breaking your dinner rolls apart, cut them in half lengthwise.
- Spread a tablespoon or two of butter on the bottom half.
- Then place the ham on top and the cheese on top of the ham.
- Spread as much dijon mustard as you like (I used about 2 tablespoons) over the cheese.
- Place the top of the dinner rolls back on top.
- Melt a tablespoon or two of butter and brush on top of the rolls.
- Cover with foil and place in the oven, middle rack.
- Let warm 15 minutes.
- Remove foil and let it continue warming about 5-7 minutes. Sprinkle with a little sea salt, if desired.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Dinner Rolls: feel free to use a whole wheat dinner roll or a Hawaiian-style dinner roll. Whatever you prefer.
- Ham: you could use turkey and/or salami as well!
- Cheese: use dairy-free or regular cheese. Provolone worked great, but so would American or even a Pepper Jack.
- Butter: you can use plant-based butter if you prefer.
- Foil: yes, you need to use foil otherwise the tops of your dinner rolls will get a little too crispy.
