- whole grapefruits – just pick-up a couple ripe grapefruits at your local grocery store or farmer’s market.
- sugar – option to use coconut sugar or granulated sugar.
- fresh basil – this fresh herb is a nice compliment to the sweet caramelized grapefruit.
- honey – add a drizzle on top for a touch of added sweetness!
- optional for serving: Greek yogurt
How To Make Caramelized Grapefruit
The first steps to making this easy recipe are to cut each grapefruit in half. Sprinkle sugar on each half of grapefruit flesh. Place these halves on a large baking sheet and place under the broiler for 3-5 minutes or until slightly golden brown.

We love to drizzle a little bit of honey on each half and sprinkle with chopped fresh basil. Ingredients
- 2 fresh grapefruit
- 1 tablespoon coconut sugar (or regular granulated sugar)
- 4–5 basil leaves, chopped
- topping: a drizzle of honey
- option for serving: greek yogurt (sub dairy-free yogurt)
Instructions
- Cut each grapefruit in half. Place on a baking sheet and sprinkle each half with about a 1 teaspoon of sugar.
- Broil on high for 3-5 minutes – you will want to watch it carefully as it is a fine line between caramelizing and burning. Remove from oven when sugar starts to brown.
- Two options for serving:
- Leave in rind and cut around sections with knife for easy access. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle each grapefruit with about 1 leaf worth of basil. Serve immediately.
- Remove grapefruit sections from rind. Place in a small bowl, add about 1/2 cup greek yogurt, and about 1 teaspoon worth of basil – drizzle with honey.
