Garlic and Herb Butter Recipe
Fresh herbs and garlic all wrapped up in creamy butter is how I quickly elevate dinner, whether I’m using herbed butter for bread, steak, or my Thanksgiving turkey. Plus, making it at home is cheaper and fresher than what you’d get at the grocery store. Not into parsley? No worries! Use the herb that’s calling your name.
Key Ingredients & Substitutions
Be sure to see the recipe card below for the complete instructions and estimated nutritional information.

- butter – I usually use salted Kerrygold butter since it’s widely available and has a super luxurious texture and flavor.
- fresh garlic – Fresh is always best, but you could use pre-minced garlic to save on time.
- fresh parsley – What I love about this recipe is that you can use whatever herb you’d like; Thyme, rosemary, you name it!
Amp Up The Garlic Flavor
To do this, take your time when mincing your garlic to make it as fine as possible. This will help disperse garlic flavor throughout your butter for the best garlic herb butter ever!
How To Make Garlic Herb Butter

Step 1: Mix the butter, garlic, parsley, and salt.

Step 2: Place garlic herb butter on a sheet of wax paper.

Step 3: Wrap the wax paper around the butter and use your hands to form it into a small log shape. Place in freezer for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Unwrap the butter log and serve!
How To Use Garlic Herb Butter
So glad you asked! We add garlic herb butter to our grilled steaks when we want to amp up the flavor and juiciness. And it is out-of-this-world good on your classic corn on the cob and simple roasted potatoes. Plus, I’ve been known to throw it on turkey wings as well as our Thanksgiving turkey. And my kids have caught me slathering this stuff on some basic grilled bread for breakfast…yeah, I’m a savory gal.

Recipe FAQs & Tips
You can, but the flavor won’t be nearly as potent. But if that’s what you got, use 1 teaspoon of dried for every tablespoon of fresh.
This garlic herb butter will keep for a month in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer as long as it’s sealed in an airtight container.
The sky’s the limit, my friend! Experiment with thyme, rosemary, chives, you name it!
