What You Will Need
- coconut sugar – highly recommend this natural sweetener but you can use brown sugar, if you want.
- maple syrup – we love to make our own homemade maple syrup or pick-up a store-bought version from your local grocery store.
- vegan butter – this is where we make the switch from a traditional caramel sauce to this amazing dairy-free caramel sauce.
- coconut oil – perfect for getting that creamy texture!
- pinch of salt – just a little bit of this simple seasoning always hits the spot.
How To Make Vegan Caramel Sauce
The first steps to making this easy recipe are to put the maple syrup and coconut sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a medium high heat and whisk to melt the sugar.
Add the remaining caramel sauce ingredients to the medium pot.
Continue whisking until everything is melted and the sauce has a pourable consistency and golden brown color.
Let the sauce cool slightly at room temperature and then serve or store in the fridge to enjoy the next day or up to one week.
Best Ways To Serve Vegan Caramel Sauce
The options are endless! You can serve this rich caramel sauce on just about anything. Some of our all-time favorite ideas for this sweet condiment are:
- Apples: in the Fall we have an abundance of apples, so we love to use this sauce for dipping apple slices, make caramel apples, baked apples, or drizzle on some traditional apple crisp or a slice of apple pie.
- Ice Cream: typically we love picking up a dairy-free, vegan ice cream and add the sauce to make a dairy-free ice cream sundae!
- Toffee Cheesecake Jars – our vegan caramel cheesecake jars are so easy to make and the perfect dessert recipe.
- Cake – if you are making a delicious chocolate cake or cupcakes, try taking them to the next level with a drizzle of this simple caramel sauce.
- Coffee – whether you enjoy regular hot coffee or cold brew, caramel is a great way to add a touch of sweetness and flavor to your favorite morning beverage.
