What You Will Need
- Fresh tilapia fillets – we chose to use tilapia but you can use your favorite type of fish!
- Creole seasoning, salt, & pepper – all the seasoning you need for delicious baked tilapia
- Olive oil – just a drizzle to help with cooking the fish
- Cooked rice or cauliflower rice – either one of these would work great but to take the flavors to the next level we highly recommend cilantro lime rice!
- Cilantro, avocados, mangoes, purple cabbage, & a lime – the flavor combination of these toppings is amazing but again, feel free to get creative with a combination that works for you!
What Kind Of Fish Is Best To Use For Fish Taco Bowls?
We used tilapia and it was delicious! Usually a lean and white flakey fish tends to work best, like halibut, snapper, cod, etc.
How To Cook The Fish Fillets
In the recipe card below we have given options for cooking the fish fillets on the stove top or baking them in the oven. On the stove top you drizzle a little olive oil and cook them for about 3-4 minutes on each side. In the oven you bake them at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes. Both ways are super easy but to be honest, baking makes the whole process a lot faster because you can prep all of your toppings while the fish bakes. The stove top is also delicious but it requires more monitoring.
What Rice Should I Use In The Bowl?
If you have the time, we highly recommend using a homemade cilantro lime rice! The flavors really take the whole bowl to the next level. However, you can use any rice you have on hand – white rice, brown rice, etc.
For a Whole30/Paleo option you can easily make cilantro lime cauliflower rice or regular cauliflower rice. But if you are short on time you can always grab some store-bought cauliflower rice! Do what works for you!
Best Toppings For A Fish Taco Bowl
In this recipe we used cilantro, avocados, mangoes, purple cabbage, & a lime. In our opinion this combination is really light, refreshing, and delicious! But there are so many different toppings that you could do. If you like a little spice in your life you could mix some sriracha and mayo together and drizzle that on top! Otherwise, get creative and share with us your favorite combo!

Delicious! I was in a hurry (read lazy😉) so used mango salsa and bagged shredded slaw mix. I also added some green onions. Can’t wait to make this again!

Made this 2 weeks ago and it was so incredible that I dream of eating it every day. We are headed out now to the fish store so I stopped by to look at the ingredients and thought I should write a review to let everyone know how delicious and easy it is. We use Mahi filets (so much better than tilapia), fresh here right now but Costco frozen Mahi is just as good. The cilantro lime rice is easy and the perfect complement to the dish. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
