- olive oil – a drizzle in the pan to help sauté the sliced onions.
- kosher salt & pepper – a sprinkling of each give the onions a nice, light seasoning.
How Long Does It Take To Caramelize Onions
The amount of time varies depending on how caramelized you want your onions. Generally, it takes about 15-30 minutes but the exact time is up to you and how you like your onions. You can let them cook longer if you want them to be more caramelized, just keep an eye on them.
Is It Better To Caramelize Onions In Butter Or Oil
You will only want to use oil for caramelizing onions, not butter. Oil has a higher smoke point than butter and will keep the onions from burning. We always use olive oil.
How To Serve Caramelized Onions
Caramelized onions pair really well with meat, especially beef. We love them the best on Grilled Steak, Standing Rib Roast, a Burger Bowl, or on a Caramelized Onion Burgers. So many great options! We would love to hear in the comments the best way you like to eat them.
