Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing Ingredients & Substitutions
Be sure to see the recipe card below for a full listing of ingredients, instructions, and estimated nutritional information.

- Avocado: Choose avocados that give slightly to a gentle squeeze. This is the magic ingredient that adds creaminess and plant-based fats.
- Lime Juice: Not only does lime juice provide a hit of flavor, but it also slows down the oxidization process, keeping your dressing a bright, light green color vs. a brown color that can often impact avocado based recipes.
- Greek yogurt: Adds creaminess and a slightly tangy flavor. Swap with sour cream if you don’t have this on hand.
- Dijon mustard: Our favorite way to add a depth of flavor to any sauce recipe, but feel free to swap with regular mustard if that’s all you have.
Chick Fil A Copycat Dressing?
Honestly, no. We didn’t even know that Chick-Fil-A had an avocado lime ranch dressing prior to making this recipe, but apparently it’s a customer favorite. We’re not sure what all goes into theirs, but we pride ourselves in using fresh herbs and simple ingredients without the preservatives to get the best tasting dressing possible.
How To Make Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing

Step 1 – Add all of the ingredients into a small food processor.

Step 2 – Blend until you notice the dressing has a uniform consistency and a light green color.
Chill For More Flavor
Creamy dressings like this one have the best flavor after they’ve chilled in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours. This allows the acid from the lime to fully incorporate into the fat as well as gives the salt time to dissolve and season the dressing evenly.

Step 3: Taste and adjust salt and enjoy!
What We Learned Testing this Recipe
- A small food processor works best to blend this sauce. If you use a large food processor or blender, the ingredients can get stuck below the blades, which keeps the dressing from getting fully blended. A hand blender will also work here!
- Blend this dressing immediately once the ingredients are added to the food processor. The sooner that the lime juice makes contact with the avocado, the more likely that your dressing won’t turn brown.

Recipe FAQs & Tips
Traditional ranch uses buttermilk and mayonnaise as its primary base. Avocado lime ranch incorporates avocado and lime juice for a fresher, brighter flavor.
Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time, testing the consistency after each add. Stop once you’ve reached your desired consistency.
Add the other half of the avocado. Continue to add avocado until you’ve reached your desired thickness.
Avocado lime ranch dressing can be made dairy-free by using a dairy-free Greek yogurt.
