What You Will Need
- butter – Just a bit to brush over the sweet hawaiian rolls to give them just a hint of crispiness on the top.
- Hawaiian Rolls – Our favorite type of slider buns thanks to their flavor and light texture.
- chicken breasts – Learn how to shred chicken breasts or use leftover shredded rotisserie chicken.
- buffalo sauce – We love our homemade buffalo sauce for an extra flavor, but feel free to use a store bought verison.
- celery stalks & green onions – Fresh veggies to counter balance the bold buffalo sauce.
- kosher salt – Just a bit to heighten all of the other flavors.
- provolone cheese – A perfectly melty, gooey cheese with a mild buttery flavor.
- for serving – blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing.
How To Make Buffalo Chicken Sliders
Start by gathering and measuring out all of your ingredients while your oven preheats to 350 degrees F.
Next, place the shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, celery, green onion and salt in a large bowl and mix until combined.
Now for the Hawaiian rolls! Grab a long serrated knife and cut through the middle of all the buns with one singular cut so that you end up with a top half and bottom half of the rolls. Spread one tablespoon of butter across the bottom half and then place them on a parchment lined baking sheet. Spread the shredded buffalo chicken mixture evenly on top of the buttered rolls and then add the layer of cheese slices over the chicken mixture.
Top everything with the top half of the rolls, melt the remaining butter, and brush it over the top of the buns. Tightly cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
Pro Tip
For a crispier top, remove the aluminum foil for the last 5 minutes and for softer rolls keep the foil on for the entire cooking time.
Remove the pan from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
What Goes With Buffalo Chicken Sliders
Our favorite way to serve this fun party appetizer is with our homemade blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing. They both have fresh, yet creamy flavors that help to balance out the bold buffalo sauce. Feel free to make the homemade versions or grab some from your local grocery store.
Recipe FAQs and Tips
- make ahead – Feel free to make the chicken mixture ahead of time. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days
- sauce – Any buffalo sauce will get the job done, but for the best flavor, whip up a batch of our homemade buffalo sauce.
- storage – These are best enjoyed straight out of the oven as the buns will end up soaking up the sauce and will become soggy if they’re stored as leftovers.

Description
Our quick and easy Buffalo Chicken Sliders recipe is perfect for enjoying on game day, at a potluck, or for an easy weeknight dinner!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 standard package (12oz) Hawaiian rolls
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked & shredded
- 2/3 cup buffalo sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1/4 cup green onion, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 10 slices (7oz) provolone cheese
- serving suggestion: blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing for dipping
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a deep baking dish with parchment paper, option to leave some hanging over the sides to easily remove the sliders after baking.
- Prep Buns: Remove the rolls from the packaging, being careful to not break them apart. Now use a large serrated knife to cut horizontally down the middle of the rolls, keeping them all together. You will now have all the tops in one piece and the bottoms in one piece. Evenly spread 1 tablespoon of butter on the bottom rolls. Place them in the parchment-lined pan.
- Chicken Mixture: Put the shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, celery, green onion and salt in a large bowl. Mix to fully combine. Now spread this mixture evenly on the buttered bottom rolls.
- Cheese: Evenly layer the slices of cheese on the chicken mixture.
- Top Buns: Place the top section of the rolls on top of the cheese. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in the microwave. Using a basting brush, lightly brush melted butter on top of the rolls.
- Bake: Place aluminum foil on top of the baking dish and tightly cover. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes (if you want the rolls a bit more crispy, remove foil for last 5 minutes – for softer rolls, keep foil on the entire time).
- Serve: Let cool slightly and then lift the parchment paper to remove the sliders. Cut into individual sliders and serve with blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing for dipping!
Notes
- Buffalo Sauce: highly recommend making our homemade buffalo sauce, but if you are short on time we also love Primal Kitchen’s Buffalo Sauce.
- Prep Ahead of Time: the chicken mixture could easily be prepped ahead of time, stored in an airtight container in the fridge, and then just assemble and bake the sliders when ready.
