What You Will Need
- simple dry rub – we included a flavorful spice rub option in the recipe card below or use your favorite store-bought version.
- country style ribs – you should be able to find these at your local grocery store or butcher shop.
- liquid smoke – love coating the outside with some smokey flavor!
- worcestershire sauce – another ingredient that brings the best flavor to this rib recipe.
- yellow mustard – just enough to coat the outside of the ribs and works with the rib rub to create a little bit of a paste.
- BBQ sauce – highly recommend taking the time to make our homemade BBQ sauce, but a store-bought bbq sauce works too!
How To Cook Country Style Ribs
The first steps to making this great recipe are to place the ribs in a single layer in a shallow casserole dish and rub the liquid smoke all over them.
Next, rub them with worcestershire sauce and then yellow mustard. Mix the dry rub ingredients in a small bowl and then rub all over the ribs.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place in the preheated oven to bake for about one hour of cooking time at 325 degrees F. Then remove the foil and return to the oven to continue the cooking process until the internal temperature reaches 195 degrees F.
Finally brush barbecue sauce over all the ribs and turn up the heat to 400 degrees F. Continue cooking for another 5-10 minutes.
Best Way To Serve Country Style Ribs
These saucy spare ribs could be served with just about anything! A few of our favorite side dish recipes are dill pickle pasta salad, creamy coleslaw, cornbread, or some grilled potato wedges. There are so many delicious options that we created a whole roundup list of sides to serve with ribs!
Storage
Leftover ribs can easily be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
Recipe FAQs
- What are country style ribs? They are a cut of meat that is located where the loin and shoulder area of the pig meet. Typically, this cut of pork has a large amount of fat to them and benefit from being cooked low and slow.
- How to cook country style ribs in the oven? Simply cover with your desired seasoning, bake at a lower temp for 1-1.5 hours, coat in bbq sauce, and then bring up the heat for the last few minutes to make the sauce nice and tacky.
- What is the best temperature to cook country-style ribs? We recommend starting at a low temp, like 325 degrees F. Then increase to 400 degrees F for the last few minutes. This creates a mouth-watering, fork tender rib meat.

Description
A seriously delicious Country Style Ribs recipe that is packed with flavor and so easy to make! Perfect for a weeknight or cookout!
Ingredients
Dry Rub:
- 1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
- 2 1/2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 2 1/2 tablespoons lemon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tablespoon smoked garlic powder
- 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Country Style Ribs:
- 4 lbs country style ribs
- 1–2 tablespoons liquid smoke
- 1–2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 2–4 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 bottle of your favorite bbq sauce
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Option to line a 9×13 baking dish with foil, if you want, for easier clean-up.
- Dry Rub: In a small bowl combine the Dry Rub ingredients.
- Prep Ribs: Place ribs inside 9×13 baking dish. Pour liquid smoke over top and then rub all over ribs, getting in every nook and cranny. Repeat process with the worcestershire sauce and then the yellow mustard. Sprinkle the Dry Rub all over the ribs and rub into them – this will create a bit of the paste when mixed with the yellow mustard.
- Bake: Cover pan with foil and place in the oven, middle rack, for approx. 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 140-150 degrees F (use an internal meat thermometer). Remove foil and return pan to oven and let cook until the internal temperature reaches 195 degrees F. Remove pan from oven and brush on your favorite bbq sauce. Increase oven temp to 400 degrees F. and return to oven, uncovered. Let cook another 5-10 minutes or until BBQ sauce is nice and tacky and the internal temp rises to 200 degrees F.
- Rest + Serve: Remove from oven and let rest 10-15 minutes. Serve with additional BBQ sauce – we love serving these with our Dill Pickle Pasta Salad!
Notes
- Cook Time: we tested this on 4 pounds of ribs and it took approx. 2 hours for them to reach the 200 degree F. mark – this will vary depending upon the thickness of your ribs, how hot your oven runs, etc. Use an internal meat thermometer to track the temp.
- BBQ Sauce: we love our homemade barbecue sauce, but feel free to buy your favorite store-bought version.
- Serving: We love serving this with some Slow Cooker Baked Beans, Purple Slaw and Dill Pickle Pasta Salad!
