Instant-Pot Hard Boiled Eggs are a simple, foolproof way to get perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs every single time. And one of the best things about this recipe is how easy they are to peel!  Use your freshly cooked eggs in our classic egg salad recipe, egg salad with pickles, or turn them into deviled eggs.

Perfect Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

For all of our pressure cooker fans out there, this one’s for you.  And if you’re late to the Instant Pot game, this recipe might just to be the catalyst to get one.  This is the quickest, most consistent way to get perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs every single time, making your favorite egg recipes a snap to whip up.  And wait until you see just how easy they are to peel!

What You Will Need

• water – The magic ingredient to many Instant Pot recipes that allows your machine to create steam and build pressure.
• fresh eggs – Any egg variety will do. If you chose to use the egg insert, try to find medium sized eggs as they’ll fit better in the rack.
• egg insert/steamer rack – This in an optional tool to keep your eggs from breaking during the cooking process. An instant pot trivet will work okay, but may result in some cracked eggs during the cooking process.

Pour a cup of water into the bottom of the instant pot. Carefully lower the loaded egg insert into the instant pot.  Adjust the eggs so that they sit snuggly in the insert. If using the trivet, place it into the inner pot and set the eggs in a single layer on top of the trivet. 

Cover and ensure that the steam valve is set to Seal. Cook the eggs on HIGH pressure for 5 minutes and then let the steam naturally release for 4 minutes. Next, manually release the remaining pressure according to manufacturers instructions. Cook time will vary slightly if you’re living at a higher altitude. Carefully remove eggs and transfer them to an ice bath and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Remove them from the ice bath and wipe them dry using a clean paper towel.

Feel free to peel and enjoy immediately with a little salt or prep them for your favorite egg recipe (we love this Creamy Egg Salad).  Store your extra hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator for up the 7 days.

A Simple Method To Peel Eggs

Gently tap or roll your hard boiled eggs on a hard counter top and use the edge of your thumb to gently peel the shell up and away from the egg white.  Feel free to rinse the peeled eggs to remove any debris that may have gotten stuck to the surface during the peeling process.

• Insert vs. Trivet: We found that the classic trivet resulted in several eggs cracking during the cooking process. When we used the egg insert we had zero cracks in the eggs so we have to recommend that method! 
• Egg Temp: No need to let your eggs come to room temp before cooking. All of the eggs that we tested came right out of the fridge.
