Grilled Bread – learn how to make grilled bread two ways! So easy and goes perfectly with a cozy bowl of soup or light summer salad!
Simple Grilled Bread
The recipe is so unbelievably simple but it packs a big punch! Tossing a slice of bread on the grill for just a few minutes gives it a really nice toast plus some really amazing charred flavor. In the cold, winter months this is the perfect addition to a delicious bowl of soup, like Homemade Chicken Soup or you can use it for scooping a bowl of our amazing Brothy Beans. In the summer we love serving it with our Grilled Salmon Salad or using it as a base for a delicious appetizer! You can eat this bread by itself or top it with just about anything and it is going to be amazing!
What You Will Need
- thick slices of bread – any bread will do, some of our favorites are sourdough or ciabatta!
- butter – it will spread better if you have let it soften a bit – option to also add some garlic!
- olive or avocado oil – brushing a little on will really help the bread toast nicely.
What Breads Are Good For Grilling
You can really use just about any of your favorite breads! Just make sure it is a thick slice so that it is easier to handle on the grill. We love using sourdough or even a big piece of ciabatta or focaccia.
How To Serve Grilled Bread
You could serve Grilled Bread with anything and it would be delicious. It is the perfect addition to our Brothy Beans (shown below), but we also love it with our Steak Salad, Zuppa Toscana, or a nice bowl of our Pappadelle Bolognese.
Toppings For Serving Grilled Bread As An Appetizer
Another great option for grilled bread is to turn it into an appetizer. A really great appetizer option would be to top the bread with our bruschetta mix or you could use it as the base of our Steak Crostini. Other great toppings are avocado, goat cheese and honey, or some Easy Herbed Butter!
How To Make Grilled Bread
Begin by brushing some olive or avocado oil on some thick slices of bread.
Then slather on some generous amounts of butter (with or without garlic).
Place the bread on a preheated grill with the butter side down.
Grill for about 30-60 seconds on each side.
Enjoy any way you want!
Love grilled bread – then you gotta also try making homemade crostini!

Description
Grilled Bread (how to grill bread) – learn how to make grilled bread two ways! So easy and goes perfectly with a cozy bowl of soup or light summer salad!
Ingredients
- 4–6 thick slices of high-quality bread (sourdough is perfect!)
- 1 tablespoon olive or avocado oil
- 1–2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Ensure grill grates are clean and preheat grill to high heat.
- Lightly brush both sides of the bread with oil.
- Using a knife spread butter on one side of the bread.
- Place the slices on the grill over high heat, butter-side down. You may have some flare-ups, but you can actually keep the grill lid open and let the flames char the bread. Leave the bread over direct heat approximately 30-60 seconds (or until slightly charred). Flip for an additional 30-60 seconds.
- Remove and serve immediately with either brothy beans or a yummy summer salad (we love this one).
Notes
- Garlic Bread Version: mix some garlic salt and minced garlic in with the butter before spreading it on the bread for grilled garlic bread!
