What You Will Need
- pre-cooked ham – at your local grocery store or butcher shop, pick-up a precooked ham that is large enough to feed your crowd.
- water – a cup of water is always needed with cooking with an Instant Pot.
- apple cider – note that this is regular apple cider NOT apple cider vinegar for added moisture and flavor.
- brown sugar – added for a touch of sweetness to the simple ham glaze.
- melted butter – perfect for adding flavor and helping to roast the outside of the ham.
- dijon mustard – just a little bit in the glaze that compliments the ham nicely!
How To Make Instant Pot Ham
The first steps to making this delicious ham recipe is to place your ham, flesh-side down, on a plate. Grab a sharp knife and score the top of the ham. This is done by making horizontal cuts about 1/2 an inch deep into the skin and then turn the ham to make the same type of cuts the other direction. This will create a checkerboard-type pattern.
Now place the trivet in the bottom of the pot and pour in the water and apple cider. Then place the ham on top of the trivet, as shown here. Secure the lid on top and set to high pressure for 12 minutes of cook time.
While the ham is cooking, mix together the ham glaze ingredients in a small bowl.
Let the Instant Pot natural release for 10 minutes and then quick release the remaining pressure.
Carefully remove the fully cooked ham from the pressure cooker and set on a serving platter.
Use a basting brush to cover the outside of the ham in the glaze. Then you can carve and serve or feel free to place the glazed ham in a baking dish and place in the oven under the broiler for a minute or two to get the glaze nice and sticky.
